What two-factor authentication is
Normally you sign in with just your email and password. With two-factor turned on, Wayfield asks for one more thing: a 6-digit code that changes every 30 seconds, generated by an app on your phone. Because the code lives only on your device, someone who learns your password still can’t get in without your phone. It’s the single most effective thing you can do to keep your account safe.
Pick an authenticator app
You’ll need a free authenticator app on your phone. Any of these work — pick whichever you like (or one you already use):
- Google Authenticator — simple and free (iOS and Android).
- Authy — backs your codes up across devices.
- 1Password or another password manager — if you already use one, it can store your 2FA codes alongside your passwords.
Install one before you start the steps below.
Turn it on
Go to Profile Settings → Two-Factor Authentication and choose Turn on two-factor. Then:
- Scan the QR code shown on screen with your authenticator app. Can’t scan it? Tap the manual option in your app and type in the setup key we show beneath the code.
- Your app now lists “Wayfield” with a rotating 6-digit code. Type that current code into the box to prove the connection worked, and confirm.
That’s it — two-factor is now on, and Wayfield immediately shows your recovery codes.
Save your recovery codes — this is the important part
When you finish setup, Wayfield shows eight recovery codes. Use the Copy all or Download .txt button and store them somewhere safe — ideally in a password manager, not a note on the same phone that has your authenticator app. Each code works once. If you ever run low or think they may have been seen, use Regenerate recovery codes in the same settings section to get a fresh set (the old ones stop working).
Signing in with two-factor
Next time you sign in, enter your email and password as usual. Wayfield then shows a Two-step verification screen. Open your authenticator app, read the current 6-digit Wayfield code, and type it in. You’re in. If the code was rejected, it may have just rotated — wait for the next one and try again.
If you lose your phone
Don’t panic — this is exactly what the recovery codes are for. On the verification screen, choose “Use a recovery code instead” and enter one of the codes you saved. Each one works a single time, so cross it off once you’ve used it. Once you’re back in, head to Profile Settings and either regenerate a fresh set of recovery codes or turn two-factor off and set it up again on your new phone.
Turning it off
You can remove two-factor any time from Profile Settings → Two-Factor Authentication → Turn off two-factor. For your security, you’ll confirm with your current password plus a current 6-digit code (or a recovery code). After that, you’re back to signing in with just your email and password — and you can always turn it on again later.
