Photography has taken me to remarkable places, introduced me to wonderful people, and changed how I experience the world. Through Tomas Alvarez Photography, I share that passion by creating fine art photographs and helping others discover the joy of making photographs of their own.

Based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, I specialize in landscape, cityscape, and long-exposure photography. My work explores light, movement, and place, from the rugged shoreline of Lake Superior and the illuminated streets of the Twin Cities to the mountains and landscapes of North America.

Photography Workshops & Education

I believe the best way to learn photography is to get out and experience it.

I offer hands-on photography workshops in Minnesota and destinations throughout the country, with opportunities to explore everything from urban night photography to expansive natural landscapes.

My workshops emphasize small-group learning, personal guidance, and real-world experience. Whether we're photographing a city after dark, exploring a national park, or experimenting with long exposures, I focus on helping photographers understand their equipment, recognize creative possibilities, and develop confidence in their own abilities.

My approach is practical, conversational, and encouraging, with plenty of room for questions, experimentation, and discovery.

Experience, Creativity & Connection

My photography has been featured in publications, exhibitions, and juried art shows. In 2027, my seventeen-image exhibition, From Shore to Skyline, will be displayed at the Minnesota State Capitol.

Beyond creating photographs, I enjoy helping others develop their creative direction through workshops and mentoring. I believe photography is about more than the finished image. It's about the places we experience, the people we meet, and the memories we make along the way.

My goal is simple: Help you grow as a photographer, discover your own creative perspective, and come home with more than a few good photographs.
